Home building industry

Australia now has a national workplace relations system. This means that there is only one set of rules when it comes to things like wages, leave, entitlements and conditions of employment.
Basically, two important changes have been made to create a safety net to protect workers.
The first is the ten National Employment Standards (NES) which cover all workers in NSW. The NES outline the minimum employment conditions which must be met by all employers.
The second change to be aware of is that under the Fair Work system, the State awards have been moved into industry or occupation categories, forming a new set of modern awards. This is to make the minimum employment entitlements easier to understand.
These changes were made in January 2010 and as a result, many people’s minimum entitlements have changed. To help businesses move to the national system, many of the modern awards have transitional arrangements in place.
