Discrimination and Harassment

It is necessary to have a policy in place dealing with discrimination and harassment in the workplace. Discrimination in employment occurs when a person is unfairly treated at work.

Carer's responsibilities discrimination
From 1 March 2001, it is unlawful to discriminate against an employee because they need to care for or support a child or other 'immediate family member'. For information about employee rights see the Anti-Discrimination Board. Specific information is available for employers also.

Equal employment opportunity (EEO) means that everyone should have fair and equitable access to jobs, employment conditions, training and promotional opportunities. EEO is consistent with the principle of merit.

Bullying is a largely hidden problem in the workplace, often taking place behind closed doors and without witnesses.
