Dealing with the Drought

Working on the Land

Due to severe drought conditions, many rural employers are finding it difficult to continue to provide either full-time or part-time work to their employees. As an alternative to dismissing highly skilled employees and losing their experience, a range of flexibilities may be able to be utilised. These can include a reduction in hours, changing from full-time to part-time employment and staff taking any excess leave they may have.

To achieve and maintain a competitive edge in business after the drought, flexible work practices can assist in this process by supporting employers and employees during these times.
