Leave Entitlements

As a guide most employees (except some casual employees) are entitled to:

  • Under the the NSW Annual Holidays Act 1944 4 weeks annual holidays each year.
  • Usually a provision of awards, a minimum of 5 days sick leave each year, which can be used when the employee is too ill to work or when it is necessary to look after ill family members.
  • Under the NSW Industrial Relations Act 1996, parental leave, which is usually unpaid leave available when an employee becomes a parent or adopts a child.
  • Two months paid long service leave after 10 years service.

Leave entitlements depend on whether the employee is employed on a permanent, part-time, temporary or casual basis.
