Government and Related Employees Appeal Tribunal
Introduction to GREATThe Tribunal is an independent body established under the Government and Related Employees Appeal Tribunal Act 1980 No 39 (GREAT Act). GREAT hears and determines appeals against decisions relating to the discipline and promotion of NSW public sector employees. Members of the NSW Police also have appeal rights in respect of promotion and refusal to have injury or illness classified as work related. When hearing an appeal the Tribunal consists of three persons:
Appeals must be lodged within strict time limits. (Section 29 GREAT Act, 1980). GREAT decisions are final except for a right of appeal to the Court of Appeal on a question of law. (Part 5, GREAT Act, 1980) Legislation
