Changes to Hairdressing LicensingUnder the new Hairdressers Act 2003, starting 1 September, only hairdressers who have achieved a Certificate III in Hairdressing from an accredited training provider, have trade recognition from the Vocational Training Tribunal or those who previously held a licence will be allowed to practise. Hairdressing licenses are no longer required. The Certificate III is a qualification developed by the hairdressing industry and recognised by all state governments under national hairdressing competency standards. People under 21 years will also need to be undertaking or have completed an apprenticeship or hold trade recognition from the Vocational Training Tribunal to legally practise. Entertainment industry representative's licencesPursuant to the Entertainment Industry Act 1989, any person who, for financial benefit, represents performers as an entertainment industry agent, manager or venue consultant is required to hold an entertainment industry representative's licence.
