Review into Shop Trading Provisions of the Retail Trading Act 2008

In September 2011 the Minister for Finance and Services requested that NSW Industrial Relations review the current regulation of retail trading laws.

The Terms of Reference for the review focused on the complexity of the current scheme and its impact on retail businesses as well as consumers and employees.

A Discussion Paper was released calling for comments and submissions from interested persons and organisations. By the closing date of 24 October 2011, 250 submissions and comments had been received from retailers, individuals and representative organisations.

A report outlining the Government’s responses to the issues canvassed in the Discussion Paper has now been published.

A Bill reforming retail trading laws has been introduced into Parliament. Until it is passed and commenced, existing arrangements continue to apply.
