Review of the Banks and Bank Holidays Act 1912
On 29 June 2009, the Minister for Industrial Relations, John Hatzistergos endorsed the undertaking of a review to consider the current and future operation of the Banks and Bank Holidays Act 1912. This Act provides for the setting of public holidays in New South Wales. The review will recommend changes to modernise the legislation and other instruments which affect the creation and operation of public holidays and bank holidays.
The review is being undertaken by Professor Joellen Riley from University of Sydney Law School who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the review. Professor Riley holds degrees in law from the Universities of Sydney and Oxford, and has been teaching and researching in the field of employment and labour law since 1998. Professor Riley is on the Advisory Board of the Australian Institute of Employment Rights; the executive organising committee of the Australian Labour Law Association, and is a Fellow of the Commercial Law Association. Since 2008, she has been a co-editor of the Australian Journal of Labour Law.
The review is due to report to the Minister for Industrial Relations by October 2009.
